Good scissors should retain a sharp edge. That requires a tough and hard stainless steel. One of the best and most suitable steels for scissors is AISI 420 Japanese Stainless Steel.
Different scissor styles are required for specific applications. So the Smith scissors are a solid, strong universal type.
